It's about time America started using more funding for green energy technologies instead of wasting over $200 million a day on the troops in Iraq. Hopefully our new administration will stop chasing after oil and look towards the future - a future where green energy reigns supreme.

Geothermal has been a green energy source in Iceland for many years.
Some of our western U.S. states have this capability at their proverbial back door.
We need to get on the ball with geothermal, wind and solar.
Everyone needs to support green energy for our children's future.

I live in Texas and have seen them hauling some of those giant blades for their windmills- pretty cool. It shouldn't be counted on as THE solution- I agree- but it does help. The more I read on this issue, the more convinced I am that there isn't going to be a magic bullet for our energy woes. We are going to have to look to a combination of solutions, which includes- yes- lighter, more fuel efficient cars.

When you say in your backyard do you mean people can literally have them behind their house? I thought geothermal was pretty expensive and sophisticated and more for industrial use only.

This is just the beginning of trying to make a difference. I’m sure that in a few years everything will be easier, we just need to get things going. This is a nice project, too bad that it has to be done in this economical crisis. In any other situation, good results would have been easier to find and the process much easier.

Damon, great article. Another one for my blog :) I'm always wary of three-wheeled vehicles - I heard they had some inherent stability problems, although the way that this vehicle tilts when turning may overcome that..

Tesla isn't going to be the Golden EV company for long, not with upstarts like Fisker and Miles releasing their EV's this year. Tesla = too much hype, overly expensive product. Doomed to fail. Check out this EV to see what I mean - here's an electric sedan in the $40k range that's 100% electric, looks great, and has all the safety features of a regular car:

With competitors like this appearing on the scene, Tesla will have a tougher time of it unless they can prove that they can get into the sedan space and make an affordable, reliable sedan.
